Alicia Torres Sandoval Diaz passed away peacefully in Woodland on September 24, 2011 at the age of 87.

Alicia was a resident of Marysville for 58 years. She was born in Mexico City to a family and mother that fought in the Mexican Revolution. At the age of 16, gifted with natural beauty and with a talent for singing and dancing, she joined an entertainment troupe, traveling and performing throughout Mexico. While on tour in the border area near El Paso, Texas, she met and married Hector Carlos Sandoval, a U.S. Army Veteran just back from fighting in W.W.II. They eventually settled in Marysville, California where they owned and operated the Flamingo Club for 25 years along with several other restaurants and taverns. She was instrumental in portraying the Mexican culture in a positive manner by promoting a range of community activities including the Marysville Charros Association, Fiestas Patrias celebrating 16th of September events and the Comite de Beneficiencia.

After raising her own children and the death of her first husband of 35 years, she studied at Yuba Community College to increase her English proficiency and received training to become a caregiver. For over 20 years and up to age 82, she provided care and assistance to seniors through the In Home Supportive Services Program of Sutter County. At this time she met her second husband of 26 years, Miguel Diaz who was from the Basque region of Spain. He brought her new experiences she never before thought possible, especially their many trips together to Spain and Mexico.

Alicia's greatest passion was her family. She is survived by her second husband Miguel Diaz; daughters, Elizabeth Sandoval Romero and her husband Manuel; Mary Martinez and husband Tony; sons, Hector Sandoval Jr. and Daniel Vasquez and his wife Pat; her loving sister Yolanda Garcia and her husband Luis Garcia. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hector Carlos Sandoval; mother, Francisca Arreguin Albor; and father, Antonio Torres.

Visitation will be at Lipp & Sullivan Chapel, 629 D St., Marysville, from 5-8pm on Thursday, September 29th, and from 9-10:30am on Friday, September 30th. The Rosary will be recited and Mass held at St. Joseph Church, located at 7th and C Streets, on Friday, September 30, 2011 commencing at 11:30am, followed by Christian burial at Sierra Memorial Cemetery.
