Carl Eugene Rice (Gene), 87, of Marysville, died Monday, November 5th.

Born October 24, 1925 in Pleasant Hill, MO, he was the youngest of nine children. After graduating from Pleasant Hill High School in 1943, he moved to California to join his older siblings. A WWII veteran, Gene joined the Army at age nineteen. He took part in the battles of Ryukus, Okinawa and Leyte, Southern Philippines. As a result he received the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with bronze service star.

Gene moved to Marysville from L.A. in 1950 with his new family. He managed The Foster Freeze and was co-owner of The Huddle. In 1962 he joined the sales team of Hamon Brothers Chrysler Plymouth and was promoted to Parts Manager when it became Mid Valley Toyota, a position he held until his retirement in 1992.

A member of Plumas Lake Golf Club for twenty years, he hit a hole-in-one November 1992.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Betty of Marysville; daughters, Susan Hight of Marysville and Deborah Abdallah of Stockton; son, Tim Rice of El Dorado Hills; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; an older sister, Althea Schmoll of Pleasant Hill, MO; and the "light of his life" three-year old Molly Gene, his red poodle.

Graveside service: Monday, November 12th, 11:00 a.m. at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter.
