Obituary


Utter Carol Arzelia Utter, 98, of Marysville, CA, went home peacefully to be with the Lord, on July 27, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She lived a long and wonderful life and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, on December 24, 1918, to Clarence Pickering of Illinois and Arzelia Campbell Lewis of Idaho, Carol grew up in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where she graduated from High School, community college, and business school, and began one of her many careers writing for the local newspaper. During World War II, she worked for the Department of the Navy in the supply depot on Barber Point in Hawaii.

Married with five children, Carol moved to Marysville, CA, in 1963, where after raising her family, she worked for the Yuba County Probation department until her retirement in 1983. She continued to live a life of service and prayer, active in her church and community, where she was a member of the Catholic Ladies Relief Society and Catholic Daughters of America.

Carol is survived by her children, Christina Star Smith and Rodney Smith of Marysville, Carol (CiCi) DePetris and Richard DePetris of Marysville, Patti Foshee' of Fresno, CA, Grant Utter and Cindy Utter of Santa Maria, CA, Mary Carbonez, and John Paul Carbonez of Omaha, NE, eleven grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister, Mildred Pettibone, and her grandson, Allen Fleaharty.

Rosary will be 7:00 pm, August 1st, and will be arranged by Lipp and Sullivan's Mortuary, located at 629 D Street in Marysville, with chapel visitation from 2:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated August 2nd, 11:00 am, at St. Joseph's Church, Marysville, CA, followed by interment at Sierra View Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate Carol's life and to remember her great love for all she met, her vibrant zest for life, and her unending wit and humor.
