Obituary

Frances Juliana Fairey was a lifelong resident of Marysville. She was born December 7, 1930, at home in District 10 to Frank Anton Mueck and Natalie Lucy Naumann. She passed peacefully in her home at the age of 92 years old on March 18, 2023.

Frances graduated from Marysville High school in 1948, attended Heald Business College in Sacramento and later Chico State. She married Amon G. Fairey Sr. of Rio Oso on July 7, 1951, and later settled in District 10 where they farmed peaches and raised their four children.

After working at Pacific Bell, she later stayed home to manage the family ranch and raise her family. During those years, she sat on the Yuba County Planning Commission and was involved with the Republican Women's Club. As her children got older, she returned to college and graduated from Chico State in January 1976 with Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She started her professional career at Rideout Hospital as a R.N. and went on to work with the Yuba-Sutter Health Department as a Public Health Nurse.

Frances was appointed to the Yuba County Clerk-Recorder position in April 1980 and was honored to serve her community for 22 years in that position. During her tenure, she was active in the California Clerk Association, brought automation to the recorder's office, and testified before a United States Senate Committee in Washington, D.C. on the elections process in 1997. She retired from public service at the end of 2002.

In her retirement, she enjoyed helping her grandchildren and being there for her children. Frances spent many hours in the garden tending to her multitude of roses and pulling those pesky weeds. For many years she loved painting with oils, acrylics, and later ventured into a passion for watercolors. Several of her watercolor paintings hung in the Yuba County Courthouse for many years. She also loved to read mystery novels and watch anything with Tom Selleck.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Natalie Mueck, her husband Amon G. Fairey Sr., her siblings Werner, Ben, Mary Mueck and her son-in-law Chuck Devaney.

She is survived by her four children Amon G. (Julie) Fairey Jr. of Marysville, Kathy Devaney of Marysville, Stephanie (Larry) Stratton of Twenty-nine Palms, and Doug (Michelle) Fairey of Texas, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Frances was a very strong and fiercely loyal person. She will be greatly missed by many. We love you forever and always.
