Ixtlilxochitl Maria Soto was born on June 13, 1976 in Yuba City, California, to Salvador Varela Soto and Maria Guadalupe Soto. She married and had three daughters (Tzintzuni Ana Vargas, Quetzalcoatl Citlalin Veronica Vargas, and Moyolehuani Frida Soledad Vargas). Last week, at the age of 39, she joined her Father in Heaven.

Xochitl lived the majority of her life in the Yuba-Sutter area with her family. She earned two Associates of Arts from Yuba College and Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from California State University, Sacramento. Xochitl was an immigration consultant helping hundreds of people with immigration and citizenship. She will be remembered as a teacher, community leader, an artist, and an activist for civil rights.

Ixtlilxochitl is survived by her mother, grandmother (Maria Mercedes Perez), her three young daughters (ages 10, 8, and 5), her sisters (Quetzal Lidia Garcia, Dr. Iztaccihuatl Guadalupe Soto, Dr. Tonantzin Eva Rodriguez, and Mixtlicoatl Raquel Gonzalez) and her six nieces and five nephews.

A rosary is scheduled for Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 7pm at Lipp and Sullivan in Marysville. Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in Marysville on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 1pm followed by a reception.
