Obituary

John Luther Cooper, 68, of Rio Oso, CA, formerly of Pleasant Grove, CA, passed away after a brief illness on June 22, 2026.

Born in Mesa, AZ, John spent most of his life in California.

John had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, snowshoeing, hunting, and most of all, fishing.

He and Margo traveled extensively throughout the United States in their RV, visiting 45 states while pursuing two of their favorite pastimes, fishing and attending NASCAR events.

He also traveled with family throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.

A 1976 graduate of Highlands High School, John was a machinist by trade and worked for various machine shops manufacturing parts for the aerospace industry.

He worked for the City of Sacramento as a machinist for about 15 years. He later worked alongside his son as a real estate agent for many years.

John enjoyed researching the history of the places he planned to visit and often shared a morning history lesson with Margo in the days leading up to their travels.

John was happiest in his workshop, fabricating, building and creating. He generously gave his time to the community as a 4-H leader in shooting sports and camping, and as a volunteer firefighter with the Pleasant Grove Fire Department.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Margo; sons, John A. Cooper, and Daniel Cooper; daughters-in-law, Kristin of Rio Oso, CA, Sarah of Stevensville, MT; six grandchildren; five sisters; and mother, Louise, of Fair Oaks, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Cooper; and brother, Michael Todd.

John will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
