Obituary


John William Pelfrey passed away after a brief illness on January 25, 2019, at Enloe Hospital in Chico. John was born to Edward & Lorean Pelfrey on September 12, 1943, in Yuba City.

As a young man he worked in the fruit harvests, as a loader for Onstott Crop Dusters and a surveyor for Von Geldren Engineering. He went to work for Yuba County Road Department in 1965, as part of the survey team and retired from Yuba County Public Works 35 years later as a county sign man.

John was so proud to have been Baptized at St. Isidore Catholic Church last Easter. John will be remembered for his kindness, humor, his love for his family, and his deep devotion to Cynthia his wife of 54 years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Edward (Contessa); and Johnann (Michael) Johnson; grandchildren, Katherine (Jeremiah Rivas); Stephanie (Jason) Shatto; Alison (Anthony Howard); great-grandchildren, Isabell Clare Rivas; and William Jeremiah Rivas; sister-in-law, Natalla Franklin; siblings; Janice Henley; Jack (Marjie); Jim (Rebecca); Jeff (Donna); and Joe (Chris Dee); and his many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated by Rev. Avram Brown at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 222 Clark Ave., Yuba City, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00 AM.
