Obituary

John Edward Perkins, 73, passed away on May 6, 2026, with his wife, Carmela, and family by his side.

He fell ill and fought a courageous battle this last month.

John was born on October 22, 1952, in Marysville, CA, to Clyde and Barbara Perkins. He was the fourth of eight siblings.

John is a graduate of Marysville High School. He continued his education at California State University, Chico, CA, where he earned his B.S. degree in Biology, and Masters in Science.

He was formerly married to Nancy Byer and they had three children together, Erin, Kevin, and Todd.

John started his career at Holiday Market, and the subsequently started Sutter Buttes Fire Extinguisher Company, a successful business that took him to many locations throughout Northern California.

In addition to spending time with his children and grandchildren, John enjoyed fishing, card games, NFL football, camping, hosting barbecues at his home, and lounging by the pool.

He was a bird enthusiast and enjoyed watching birds. Life was good.

John was fortunate to find love again 21 years ago when he met his wife, Carmela. They were married for 15 years.

Together they traveled to England, France, several resorts in Mexico, and camped throughout Northern California. They had recently returned from their bucket list travel destination of Belize.

John believed in service and belonged to Sirs, Slow Trollers, Moose Lodge, Yuba Buttes RV Club, and as a Catholic parishioner, he helped in many church activities.

Notably, for the past eight years, he would supervise the children during lunch at St. Isidore School.

John is survived by his wife, of 15 years, Carmela Perkins; children, Erin Cucchi (Dan), and Kevin Perkins (Corinne), of Yuba City, CA, and Todd Perkins (Lisa), of Ayorro Grande, CA; granddaughters, Emma, Caroline, and Tabitha; great granddaughter, Eloise; siblings, Gail Kunsman (Mike), Patty Haggard, Ruth Juarez, and Mary Heffington; as well as numerous cousins; nieces; nephews; and extended Perez Family.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde, and Barbara Perkins; siblings, Bob Perkins, Claudia Perkins, Claire Fielder; and brother-in-law, Jim Heffington.

Our John will be missed but never forgotten.
