Mamie was born on January 8, 1920 in Baker City, Oregon to James Jasper Burns and Mary Samantha Young. Mamie passed away March 29, 2012 at 92, after complications from breaking her hip.

Mamie was the third oldest of ten children, coming to Marysville from Baker City in 1925 in a covered wagon following the Oregon Trail. The family temporarily lived in the covered wagon in a barn in Arboga, where her father was employed as a ranch foreman.

Mamie graduated from Marysville High School in 1936 and went to work for Dr. Bone as his nurse. For 41 years she worked with Dr. Bone in his office and making hundreds of house calls, mostly delivering babies at home.

In 1976 she went to work at a convalescent hospital in Marysville until her stroke in 1985. Since her brother Harry was a WWII veteran she was able to join the VFW. She volunteered for 15 + years as Vice President and later as the Historian. She sold the infamous "poppies", and every Memorial Day she decorated the veterans' graves.

Mamie is survived by her sisters Audrey Collier and Mary Evans, both of Oregon; her brothers Harry Burns of Coronado, CA and Richard Burns of Sacramento, CA.

She will be dearly missed by her family. Especially her sister's (Ida May Weir) children, Gary, Duane, and Weldon Jr., whom she was like a second mother to.

There will be a private memorial service.
