1942-2021
The sky gained another shining star. You will forever be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers and now the sky will shine a little brighter. That's how we know you are watching over us.
Maria Consuelo Mendoza went to Heaven, after a long illness on Sunday, January 17, 2021. She bravely fought cancer for 6 years, like a true "Leona". Maria was born in Mexico on January 11, 1942. She married Jose Guadalupe Leon and in 1987 they moved their family to California.
Maria was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She especially loved her role as "Chelo" to her grandchildren, and embraced every moment with them. She never had an unkind word about anyone. Maria had a passion for gardening. She loved all flowers, especially roses. She was very generous and shared many of her plants and flowers with friends and family. Maria loved to dance. And, she would jump at the chance to "visit" the casino whenever she could.
Maria was married to her husband, Jose Guadalupe Leon, for 32 years before he passed away on July 6, 1997. Maria and Jose were blessed with nine children.
She is survived by Maria Estrada (Fernando), Javier Leon (Rosa), Martha Juarez (Isidro), Juana Leon (Froylan), Jesus Leon (Norma), Graciela Leon (Lorenzo), Juan Leon (Grace), Rosalba Leon (Josue), Neymi Leon (Martin). Maria, lovingly known as Chelo, is survived by 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Chelo would sometimes help her grandchildren be mischievous, and would cover for them so they would not get in trouble.
