Obituary

Elsie Marie Staas, 80, of Marysville, California passed away peacefully at her home on April 30, 2026. She was born January 25, 1946 in Pineland, Texas to Marsell Patterson and Lorene Green. Most of her childhood was spent traveling between California, Texas, and Louisiana before her family decided to settle in the Linda area. Marie graduated from Marysville Union High School Class of 1964. She married Paul Staas November 12, 1966, spending nearly 60 wonderful years together and raising three children.

Marie retired from Food Maxx February 6, 2011 after 25 years. She loved everyone and maintained friendships with coworkers for years to come.

A devoted wife and compassionate mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets. She also loved traveling and collecting beautiful things along the way; new plants for her garden, fabric for quilting, yarn, and other crafts for keepsakes.

Marie is survived by her husband Paul; children, Tom Staas (Fayra), Melanie Broderick (Tim), Mandy Luis (David); grandchildren, Emily Holcomb (Mitch), Ryan Staas (Morgan), Natalie Henderson (Max), Josh Broderick, Sarah Broderick, Garrett McAdams (Heather), Donovan McAdams; great grandchildren, Eliza & Kaycee Holcomb, Troy, Lainey, & Khloe Staas, Bryson, Weston, Braelyn, & Colton McAdams; sister, Betty Weatherspoon, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marsell R. Patterson, Jr. & Clifford Patterson; sister, Patsy Collins.

Anyone who knew Marie will remember her as the sweetest, kindest, most loving and giving person. A beautiful spirit and a friend to all.

Graveside service to be held at 1pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Sierra View Memorial. Please arrive no sooner than 15 minutes ahead of scheduled time.

Celebration of Life to follow at McAdams Ranch - 3310 Duggin St, Marysville, CA

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Sutter Hospice - 400 Plumas St, Ste 115, Yuba City, CA 95991
