Omer T. Goodwin was born to Walter & Nora Goodwin on October 13, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL. He married the love of his life, Bernice (Bee) Holdener on June 9, 1951. They moved to Marysville in June 1953 with their 1 yr. old son, David. They have been members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church since their arrival in the area.
Omer was a decorated veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII as a Signalman. He was also a master in his career as an auto mechanic. He worked at Ray Gouge Firestone, John C. Bayes Ford, and Valley Auto before retiring following a severe back injury in 1974.
Omer was an avid participant of several organizations through the years including serving as a Cub Scout & Boy Scout Troop Leader; member of several bowling leagues and inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the ELKS; SIRS; VA; VFW; Knights of Columbus; Moose Lodge; and started the Gold Sox Booster Club and Seniors Bowling Fun Day.
Omer and Bee have four children: Dave Goodwin of Marysville; Don & Michele Goodwin of Westlake Village, CA; Diane (Goodwin) & Jim Smalley of Yuba City; Debbie (Goodwin) & Chris Poling of Roseville. He enjoyed his eight grandchildren: Laura (Smalley) Crowninshield of Yuba City; Alex Goodwin of Conifer, CO; Robert Smalley of Yuba City; Brandon & Sarah Poling of Roseville; and Preston, Jeffrey & Ashlyn Goodwin of Westlake Village, CA; as well as his two great - grandchildren; Hailey & Tyler Crowninshield of Yuba City.
Omer passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 20, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Eugene Goodwin of Oregon; and sister Dixie Davis of Fairview Heights, IL.
Visitation will be at Lipp & Sullivan Chapel on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm when a Rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 27, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father R. B. James Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Sierra View Memorial Park, Olivehurst, CA. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall at St. Joseph's Church.
