Richard Desmond Adams, 84, of Rio Oso, California, passed away on November 19th, 2011 after a brief illness. Richard "Dick" Adams was born on July 8, 1927 in Santa Rosa, California and moved to Sutter County in 1966.
As a proud member of the US Air Force, he was stationed in Recife, Brazil and worked on weather related missions. During this time, he developed a lifelong passion for the weather. After his discharge, he returned stateside and brought his wife of more than 50 years, Ruth, back with him.
He enjoyed a 20 plus year career as an elevator mechanic and started farming his family's Rio Oso walnut orchard in 1966. He had an amazing work ethic and at 84 harvested his final crop just prior to his death.
Survivors include his five children, Richard P. Adams (Dee) of Rio Oso, CA; Mary Ann Adams of Sacramento, CA; Robert Adams (Lydia) of Sausalito, CA; David Adams (Jennifer) of Rio Oso, CA and Julie Adams-Gerth (Bruce) of Minneapolis, MN. Survivors also include eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife, Ruth Adams preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at St. Daniel Church, Wheatland, CA at 11:00am. on Friday, December 2, 2011. Gathering to follow services at France House, adjacent to the church. Private inurnment will be held later that day. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to East Nicolaus High School, FFA. 2454 Nicolaus Ave., Nicolaus, CA 95659 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
