Shirley Lee Harriger Shirley Lee Harriger succumbed to illness at Rideout Memorial Hospital Friday, Aug. 5, 2011. She passed on peacefully surrounded by her adoring family. Born to Arthur and Winifred Jones Aug. 31, 1929 in Trout Lake, WA. She grew up in an idyllic valley near Mt. Adams and the spectacular Columbia River Gorge. There she met and married her one love, George Harriger, Sr. Soon after life brought them to the different, but wonderful CA valley where she remained a Marysville resident for 63 years. In earlier years she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Ostrom Grange. Shirley was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed every family member; she excelled in nurturing them all. She had a magical connection to every generation of little ones and delighted in their company. The miles of lullabies, poems and stories in the rocking chair, were just a portion of her special gifts. She was also deeply involved in school-related activities of her children. From an early age she was an avid reader with a remarkable memory, remaining highly educated throughout her life. Shirley had a beautiful singing voice that rang out in the church congregation or simply while performing daily chores at home. She played the piano and appreciated a marvelous range of music. A precious, gentle soul, she always saw the best in others and the upside of life; thrived on simple pleasures like family gatherings, watching sunsets or birds, or tending to plants in her lovely yard. Shirley is preceded in death by her dear husband George, Sr. of 56 years and her revered parents. She is survived by three sons: George Harriger, Jr. (Pollie) of Yuba City, John Harriger (Nancy) of Rocklin, and Bob Harriger (Shaunne) of Marysville; three daughters: Evelyn Harriger of Marysville, Ardith Carter (John) of Yuba City, and Vivian Hall of Portland, OR; and one sister Ardith Thompson (Lloyd) of Trout Lake, WA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, 6 nieces, and 4 nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Lipp and Sullivan Chapel, 629 D St., Marysville, CA. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, also at the Chapel, with Reverend Chris Kersting officiating. Burial will be held at Biggs-Gridley Cemetery, Gridley, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Shirley will be dearly missed and remembered in countless ways, among them for: her intelligence, wit, humor, generosity, strength, tolerance, compassion, and love by all who knew and cherished her. Her family is grateful for the life we shared and the greatly deserved rest and peace she has now attained.
