Verna Evelyn Westcamp, 76, passed away with family by her side in the early morning on January 23, 2020. Verna was a lifelong resident of Marysville, CA. She was born on July 2, 1943, at Rideout Hospital.
Verna was a first-grade teacher at Kynoch Elementary School for 33 years and an educator for 36.
Verna is survived by her husband of 55 years, Larry Westcamp of Marysville; daughter, Jill Lewis (Greg) of Marysville; daughter, Julie Hall (Delano) of Yuba City; brother, Terry Mills (Teresa) of Carmichael; and brother, Lou Mills (Leasa) of Yuba City. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, and their families; and several grandchildren: Candice and Courtney Coolidge, Tanner and Trevor Lewis, Davin, Dillon, and Jenna Hall; and great-grandchildren; Rylan Lewis, Mateo and Mazie Lopez.
Verna is preceded in death by her father, Vernon Mills and mother, Gladys Mills of Marysville.
In their younger years, Verna and Larry were avid dancers; participating in the Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club and square dancing. They also thoroughly enjoyed packing up the trailer and heading to the coast and instilled their love of camping in their family. After retirement, Verna and Larry were Camp Hosts at MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg, CA for several seasons. When she wasn't at a campfire, playing cards, or driving her Gator around the park, you could find Verna at the casino playing bingo or asking Papa for another $20 to put in the slot machine.
Verna was one-of-a-kind and loved very dearly. She will be missed by those who were lucky enough to know her.
There will be a private family burial at Browns Valley Cemetery in Browns Valley, CA, and a public Celebration of Life held from 1-7 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Marysville Elks Lodge.
