Obituary

Vincent Albert DePalma, born on May 10, 1931, in San Jose, California, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the age of 92. Vincent was a kind-hearted man who dearly loved his family and friends.

During his time here on Earth, Vince devoutly served our country as an E3 electrician in the United States Navy during the Korean War. A farmer for most of his 92 years, he served our community as a Yuba County Deputy Sheriff, 1972 - 1978. Vince also served as a warden for the California Department of Fish and Game. He earned the title of marksman for his skilled shooting talent and won several competitions, even posting a 300 score on more than one occasion. At the age of 92, he could still hit the bull's eye on a target.

Growing up in Cupertino, California, Vince loved reminiscing about the days of working in his parents' apricot orchard. He was a 1949 graduate of Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California. Through phone calls and class reunions, Vince kept in touch with his classmates and close friends.

After their honeymoon, Vince and his wife, the former Mary DeMare, moved to Marysville, CA, in 1960, along with his parents and brother, where he continued his love of farming. DePalma and Sons planted peaches, prunes, and pears in District 10, and had a thriving ranch which is still in operation to this day.

He loved deer hunting out of state in Colorado with his cousins and uncles; trips he looked forward to every hunting season. He was a patron life member of the NRA. Vince also enjoyed membership in the Elks Lodge and the Italian Club. One of his favorite pastimes was drawing caricatures, at which he was very skilled.
Vince was very devoted to his family, and he especially adored and doted on his great-grandchildren.

Vincent is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Mary Carmella (DeMare); parents, Michael and Rosalie (Naso); sister, Marie Volp; and brother, Leonard.

He is survived by his companion, Peggy Cariker; daughter, Gina Cole; son, Michael (Chrissy); grandsons, James, Joshua (Loree), and Justin Cole, Mikey (Ajza), Cody (Brittany), and Nico (Bianca) DePalma; granddaughter, Gia Wasden (Taylor); and eight great-grandchildren, Carmella, Royce, Dylan, and Vincent Scott; Carmine, Vincenzo Rey, Luca, and Anjaleen.
